In Bengal, the CBI has issued notices to Rujira Narula, the nephew of CM Mamata Banerjee and wife of Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Mukherjee. CBI sources said the summons were issued in response to allegations that she was involved in a coal smuggling case. A team of three officers came to her home on Sunday and handed out notices, apparently likely to interrogate her at home. The case was filed by the CBI in November last year. He is accused of illegal coal mining, theft of coal from the Eastern Coldfield’s Constoria and Kajoria coalfields. In Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress leaders have been regularly paid by the coal mafia, and the payments were reportedly made by party youth leader Vinay Mishra. Vinay Mishra, who is believed to be linked to the case, is currently on the run. The CBI has issued a non-bailable warrant for him.
The BJP is believed to have targeted CM Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee in the run – up to the Bengal Assembly elections. The BJP is working hard to defeat the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state and seize the reins of power anyway. Moreover, the allegations and counter-allegations between Home Minister Amit Shah and Abhishek Mukherjee are heating up the political atmosphere.
On Friday, a CBI team also raided the house of Jayadeb Mandal of Amiya Steel Pvt Ltd in Bankura, Kolkata. Anoop Manjhi alias Lala, who is believed to be the mastermind in the coal smuggling racket case, is said to be his deputy. The CBI had last November registered an FIR against Lala, Eastern Coal field managers Amit Kumar Dhar, Jayesh Chandra Roy and the company’s security chief Tanmay Das.
