Left-wing MEP José Gusmão believes that António Costa “has used the blackmail of a political crisis to avoid negotiating government policies”.
In an interview with the Observer, in the program Vichyssoise, José Gusmão, Left-wing MEP accuses António Costa of threatening a political crisis to make “Blackmail” on the left.
Although the Left Bloc has always made possible the renewal of states of emergency, Gusmão emphasizes that the party has expressed concerns regarding the financing the SNS response and the economic and social response. The party believes that measures of a state of emergency must be “complemented by economic and social support for people and especially micro, small and medium-sized companies”.
José Gusmão also guarantees that the Left Block will be available to sit at the table with the Government and debate not only the State Budget for 2022, but also possible changes to the State Budget 2021.
“What we can already see is that in the middle of February 2021 it is already evident that the State budget for 2021 is not good for the country ”, said the MEP, before criticizing the Prime Minister.
Asked if he believed that António Costa could precipitate a political crisis in order to somehow free himself from the blocks on the left, the blocker refuses to speculate.
“He [António Costa] has used the blackmail of a political crisis so as not to negotiate government policies contrary to what happened in the previous political cycle, this is public, notorious and evident ”, he shot.
“But that will not prevent us from being available to correct the State Budget for 2021 so that it can give an adequate response to the situation that the country is experiencing and, of course, discuss future budgets as we have done,” he added.
In view of the delay in the delivery of vaccines against covid-19, Gusmão points a finger at the pharmaceutical companies and argues that the only solution is to release of patents it’s at production mass vaccines, which he considers to be “a human right”, in a pandemic “which is causing more than 10,000 deaths a day”.
“While in other countries, conditions were put in place that ensured the protection of those countries in a much more solid way (…), in others it didn’t happen ”said the MEP.
Finally, asked whether hypothetically he would prefer to be a coalition partner of the PS led by Pedro Nuno Santos or the PS led by Fernando Medina, José Gusmão answered the first option.
