The number of corona virus cases reported daily in 28 out of the total 36 districts in the state has increased in large numbers in the last two weeks. The pace of the epidemic has increased even more in the last 10 days. Latur, Hingoli, Parbhani and Nanded districts of Marathwada region saw a large increase in the number of active cases. Data from the Department of Health clearly indicates that the number of active cases in the state has increased alarmingly. Authorities have identified Vidarbha, Amravati, Akola and Yavatmal as new hotspots.
Together with the latest cases, Vidarbha has been a hotbed of disease outbreaks since February. Later the disease spread to Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai, Thane and Amravati. Active cases in these five districts account for about 65 per cent of the total active cases in Maharashtra. According to various reports, Nagpur has a higher population of 5 million people compared to Mumbai, which has a population of 13 million. Statewide, Amravati has the highest positivity rate of 41.5 per cent in the state.
On Friday, the number of Kovid-19s in Mumbai rose by 1,034 to 3,23,877, causing three new deaths, health officials said. That brings the total death toll to 11,461, an official said. The city reported more than 1,000 Kovid-19 cases for the third day in a row, with 1,145 and 1,167 cases reported on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
