Local Body Election : The scrutiny of the first phase panchayat election nominations across AP is over. The State Election Commission has revealed the details of eligible nominations by district. Several sarpanchs and ward members rejected the nominations of candidates for various reasons.
With the exception of Vijayanagar, 19,491 candidates have filed nominations for the post of Sarpanch in 3,249 panchayats in 12 districts. Of these, only 18,168 have been declared eligible. A total of 1,323 nominations were rejected by the authorities in respect of Sarpanch candidates.
For Sarpanch candidates, 349 nominations were rejected in Chittoor district, 152 in Visakhapatnam, 141 in East Godavari, 138 in Anantapur, 112 in Anantapur, 84 in Guntur, 76 in Krishna, 62 in Srikakulam, 62 in Kurnool, 54 in Kadapa, 52 in West Godavari and 41 in Nellore. Authorities rejected a total of 2,245 nominations for ward members.
Elections will be held for 32,502 wards in 12 districts and 79,799 nominations have been filed for ward members. Of these, only 77,554 nominations were found to be eligible. In Prakasam district, 336, Chittoor 301, Srikakulam 265, Kadapa 261, East Godavari 231, Krishna 186, Guntur 147, Nellore 136, Anantapur 117, West Godavari 102, Visakha 100 and Kurnool 63 ward nominations were rejected, the Election Commission said.
