Prime Minister Modi was deeply moved by his intimacy with Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad. In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, tears were shed for him, recalling the bond of friendship he had. He said that he and Azad were chief ministers at almost the same time and that he was the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir but he was the chief minister of Gujarat. The intimacy of the two of them is not a matter of words. Modi said he was first told about the incident during the 2007 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and that he was moved by the cries of the parents of many of the children who lost their lives in the incident. A political leader like Azad is rare these days.
Ghulam Nabi Azad’s term as a member of the Rajya Sabha ends on the 15th of this month. Modi, however, said that he would not retire and would continue to take his advice. He described Azad as a true friend. Responding to this, Azad also said that there were different feelings between him and Modi.
