The Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, announced this Friday that the national exams will be postponed to the months of July and September and that two tests will be canceled.
In an interview with Renaissance, the mandatory two-week interruption of school activities forced the school calendar to change and, in turn, caused the dates for national exams to be postponed.
Thus, according to Education Minister Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, the first phase moves to July – instead of June – and the second will take place in September – not in July.
“As at the end of the year we will have another week of classes, the school calendar has moved forward and we will have a first phase of exams to take place in July, instead of in June, and a second phase of exams to take place in September, instead of happening in July, as it traditionally does, ”said Brandão Rodrigues.
In addition to the postponement of national examinations, the government official also announced that the PE and of Artistic Expressions have been canceled.
“Physical Education and Artistic Expressions tests (…) it was decided not to take place at this time, also because they would take place in May – they are the ones that take place closest to the moment they are in – and also by sharing elements and by all the issues we know about ”, justified the Minister of Education.
Regarding the remaining disciplines, Brandão Rodrigues said that it’s still early to make decisions. “For now, what we did was a time shift,” he said, adding that, “in due course, we will have to make decisions about this.”
The minister also announced that get another 15 thousand computers next week to Portuguese schools, after the Government promised to deliver 335,000 computers by the end of the second period. The first order for 100 thousand computers has already been “completely distributed”.
The new school calendar will be published on Friday. The Ministry of Education’s adjustment indicates that there will be no Carnival holidays (which were scheduled for February 15-17) and Easter will be shortened to just three days, (between March 29th and April 1st), when the planned period was from March 25th to April 5th.
