O Grammy Awards has pledged to hire a diverse team of people to work on and off stage in producing the awards ceremony for the music industry’s top awards, organizers said on Wednesday.
The Recording Academy has said it is embracing a so-called “inclusion pilot” in its contract with the producers of the January 2022 Grammy Ceremony to drive diversity at all levels.
The inclusion pilot will oblige the company producing the event to “do its best to recruit, test, interview and hire, on and off stage, people who are historically and systematically excluded from the industry.”
The organization said this is the first major music awards event to commit to adopting an inclusion pilot.
“We are committed to promoting an inclusive environment across the industry and hope that our efforts will serve as an example to our peers in the music community,” Recording Academy Chief Executive Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Recording Academy partners with the non-profit organization “Color of Change” for racial justice on the Inclusion Pilot Adoption Initiative.
