Navratri is a combination of two words. Nava means nine .. Night means nights so it is a festival celebrated for nine nights. This Magha Gupta Navratri is a nine day festival where Goddess Durga is worshiped as a form of energy. But there are four Navratri festivals a year. However, during Chaitra and Sharada Navratri, people mostly celebrate. However, Navratri is also celebrated during the months of Magha and Ashadha. These are called Gupta Navratri. The Gupta Navratri which falls in the month of May is also known as Gayatri ‘Shishir Navratri’.

On the ninth day of February 20, Matangi is adorned and worshiped as Kamaladevi (Mahagauri Puja).
However, the Magha Gupta Navratri festival is celebrated only in certain places. Mainly the northern Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Magha Gupta Navratri is celebrated only in Uttarakhand.
