In Bihar, 17 MLAs from the JD-U, led by CM Nitish Kumar, are in touch with them, RJD leader Shyam Rajak said. He said all of them were eager to join their party but kept themselves to themselves as there was a law prohibiting party defections. Rajak said that if you join our party now you will lose your membership. However he acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Nitish Kumar’s government. He said the ban on party defections would not apply if 25 to 26 JDU MLAs join our party. He said it would happen soon.
However, party spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan said Rajak’s remarks were misleading and that no MLA in the JDU was dissatisfied. “All our party MLAs are united,” he said. He said the RJD should first keep an eye on its members. Rajiv Ranjan said that the party leader Tejaswi Yadav was being harassed by the party MLAs.
