New Delhi: The Central Government reiterated that no decision has been taken yet regarding the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country. The report, prepared by a parliamentary committee in the wake of fears over the Census and National Population Register (NPR), made some suggestions to the central government. In response to the panel’s recommendations, the central government explained that the personal information collected as part of the census would be confidential and only aggregated data would be provided to the departments as required. This time too, a large-scale campaign will be launched to create awareness among the people in the same manner as the previous census. The census stated that the questionnaire for NPRs had been successfully tested in advance. So far, the National Register of Indian Citizens has clarified that no decision has been taken to compile the list.
