With the perseverance of the state government, the construction of the project is progressing at a rapid pace. Hydraulic cylinders were installed at the Polavaram project gates on Monday. Mega Engineering Company, which is completing the work at record speed, has imported heavy cylinders from Mount Hydraulic Company, Germany. Mount hydraulic engineers came to AP to install these cylinders. They started setting up hydraulic cylinders in Polavaram project. A hydraulic cylinder has already been successfully installed at the first gate. However, this is the first time in the country that hydraulic cylinders have been installed for radial gates.
If so, two hydraulic cylinders are being arranged for each gate. According to the calculation, 96 hydraulic cylinders will be installed for 48 gates. Each hydraulic cylinder is 17.308 meters in length and weighs about 20 metric tons. This is the first time in Polavaram in the country that the gates have been lifted with hydraulic technology. With the help of these hydraulic cylinders it is possible to lift the gate at the rate of half a meter per minute. The Polavaram project has set up 24 power pack sets for radial gates. Two gates can be lifted with the help of one power pack. Megha has already launched the Vapor Pack Room. On the other hand the installation of 192 girders on the spillway pillars has also been completed. The work of fitting the hydraulic cylinders has now begun as the work of the girders is completed.
