Prime Time Zone, Webdesk: The auto industry saw better sales in December, the last month of the year 2020. In addition to the festive season, vehicle sales have seen positive growth in the wake of the booming economy. Domestic carmaker Honda Cars India Ltd recorded 8,638 units in December, a growth of 2.68 per cent in December. Also, it sold a total of 8,412 units in domestic markets. The company said exports were 713 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 7,487 units in December, a 14 per cent increase in domestic sales. In December 2019, the company sold a total of 6,544 units. TKM vice-president Naveen Soni said the quarterly growth was 6 per cent.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. sold 33,450 units in December, a growth of 33.14 per cent in total sales for December 2020. A total of 50,135 units were sold in December, 2019. Domestic sales rose 24.89 per cent to 47,400 units. Domestic sales had sold 37,953 units in the previous year. In December 2020, exports grew by 58.84 per cent to 19,350 units.
Ashok Leyland sold 14,762 units in December, up 14 per cent. A total of 11,168 units were sold in December, 2019. Domestic sales rose 14 per cent to 11,857 units. Domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles stood at 6,175 units, down 3 per cent from a year earlier. In the domestic market, light-commercial vehicle sales increased by 42 per cent to 5,682 units.
