This was the second meeting of high-level government officials after noise between Joe Biden, president-elect in the United States, and Jair Bolsonaro on environmental issues. Since the electoral campaign, the Democrat already said that guidelines on the environment would be placed as a priority in the relationship between the two countries and even threatened sanctions on Brazil. Biden offered a value of 20 billion dollars for the Amazon and said he would bring the world together to collect shares. However, Bolsonaro saw the proposal as an affront to Brazilian sovereignty and classified it as “regrettable”. The United States intends to hold on April 22 the “Earth Day Forum”, an event that will precede the Climate Summit, scheduled to take place in November, in Scotland.
