Prime Time Zone, Web Desk: The central government has made it clear that it will not help in the construction of the Ramayapatnam port in AP. According to the Separation Act, only the development of large ports is central. Union Minister of Ports and Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya replied in writing to a question posed by BJP MP TG Venkatesh in the Rajya Sabha. The state government has said that Ramayapatna is not a big port. The Union Minister clarified that the responsibility for the development of non-major ports lies with the states.
He said the law would have to be amended if the central government was to develop the port. The AP government had initially written to the Center seeking funding for the Ramayapatnam Major Port instead of the Dugarajapatnam Port mentioned in the Partition Act. After that, for whatever reason, on February 20 last year, a notification was issued to change the Ramayapatnam Major Port to a non-Major Port. Assuming the same chance, the Center ruled that the original port guarantee could not be fulfilled.
The Center has stated in Parliament that it is not possible to sanction funds for the Ramayapatnam Non-Major Port. The Union Minister made it clear in his written reply that the Center would provide funds only to major ports. The Center is arguing that if funds are to be given to Ramayapatnam, a non-major port, changes in the Partition Act will not be necessary. With this, the entire construction responsibility fell on Jagan Sarkar.
Is Jagan Sarkar responsible for port construction?
Meanwhile, Rs. The Jagan government has decided to build the port in two phases at an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore. It also invited bids. Aurobindo Realty and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd submitted a bid of Rs 2,634 crore. The latest central announcement came as a shock to the AP government, which had hoped to get help from the Center for the construction of the port. This came as a shock to the government as the responsibility for the construction of the Ramayapatnam port fell entirely on the Jagan government.
