O skateboarder Kelvin Hoefler conquered in the early hours of this Saturday the first Brazil medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games, with a silver in the street competition, making history for the country in the debut of skateboarding at the Olympics.
Hoefler came to lead the final of the competition, but was overtaken by Japanese opponent Yuto Horigome, who took the gold medal in the dispute at home. The bronze medal went to the American Jagger Eaton.
“Had it not been for the wind, I could have won the gold. Unfortunately, I messed up two maneuvers because of that”, said the Brazilian, according to the website of Time Brasil.
“This medal is a gain for skateboarding throughout Brazil, for which we athletes have been working. This medal is not just mine, it belongs to all the skaters in Brazil and to all the guys who support us,” he added.
