The pandemic situation has evolved and the Government has chosen to close schools. The decision led to the need for an adjustment to the school calendar in order to supply the 11 days of forced break. This year there are no Carnival holidays and Easter holidays will only last three days.

Students return to online education starting on the 8th, already next Monday. Now, the adjustment of the Ministry of Education indicates that there will be no Carnival holidays (which were scheduled for February 15-17) and Easter will be shortened to just three days, (between March 29th and April 1st), when the planned period was from March 25th to April 5th.

This was the way found by the Ministry of Education to try to compensate for the 11 days of forced pause because of the pandemic.

In this way, the completion dates of the third term will be different for the various years of schooling, but it will only be on February 12 that this change in the school calendar and tests and exams will be known.

The Ministry of Education also prepared the non-face-to-face classes, as in this phase of the pandemic, schools are not yet reopened. And in the recommendations he makes to educational establishments he remembers that it is necessary to take into account various precautions.

Tutela emphasizes that the student attention span and screen fatigue, variable according to the ages, learning styles and rhythms of different classes must be taken into account so that they do not feel overwhelmed.

A request is diversification of methodologies throughout each class, stimulating attention, individual and pair work and beingware of the excessive use of unidirectional methods, following UNESCO’s suggestions on the duration of the units based on the capacity of the students.

According to the Government, a further effective monitoring of the students in the learning developed during each week.

Finally, there must be a constant monitoring school structures of the effectiveness of the options taken to maximize student learning.

In addition to the distance classes, the ministry tutored by Tiago Brandão Rodrigues remember that all contents of #EstudoEmCasa are available, both in RTP Memória and RTP Play and in the app.
