Scientists Research What May Have Caused Uttarakhand Flash Floods: There is no telling how tragic the flash floods in Uttarakhand are. Hundreds of people were displaced by flash floods.
It is in this context that scientists have focused on what actually caused this catastrophe to happen. As part of this, a team led by IIT Delhi Professor Prashant Wangla visited the Nanda Devi Glacier area and collected key details. Researchers have found a 550-meter-wide, 2km-high iceberg in the river. Meanwhile, scientists have predicted that a glacier ice sheet would have accumulated heavily when the cliffs broke in 2016, and that such a catastrophe would have occurred when the massive iceberg fell on it. The team is analyzing Friend Satellite Scenes and Drone Videos in order to gather key clues regarding the accident. The IIT team will work with foreign universities to conduct field-level observation and advanced study topics after the disaster. The team is headed by IIT Delhi Professor Prashant and Professor David Frost.
However, experts have identified a new lake in the area of the accident. About 350 meters long .. Satellite images show that this dangerous lake was formed at a height of 60 meters. Experts have found that the water level in the lake is also gradually rising. Scientists have speculated that the lake was formed due to climate change and rising temperatures.
