Unsatisfactory consensus on seat adjustment
Chennai: The Vijaykanth-led DMDK has withdrawn from the ruling AIADMK alliance in Tamil Nadu. This is due to the fact that there is no consensus on the adjustment of seats in the elections. Will the alliance between the two parties continue? That dilemma has been around for years. Vijaykanth said the decision was taken after several rounds of talks on seat distribution but were not successful. DMDK Deputy Secretary Parthasarathy said that the AIADMK had refused to allot them 23 seats and had therefore withdrawn from the alliance.
Meanwhile, Makkal Needi Mayyam president Kamal Haasan invited the DMK to join their alliance. Vijay Kant, popularly known as ‘Black MGR’, was founded by DMDK in 2006. Currently he is not active in politics due to poor health. His wife Premalata is looking after the party affairs.
