Puducherry: The current governor of Telangana, Tamilsai Soundar Rajan, took over as the lieutenant governor of Puducherry on Thursday morning. The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court was administered the oath of office by Tamilsai in the Rajbhan there. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by CM V Narayanaswamy and other ministers. Kiran Bedi, who has been LG till now, has been removed by the Central Government by Presidential orders. With this, additional responsibilities were handed over to the Telangana Governor, Tamilsai.
Kiran Bedi has been the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry since 2016. In Puducherry, four women, including Kiran Bedi, served as lieutenant governors. This is the first time a Tamil-speaking person has been appointed governor.
