Privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel: The Center has once again clarified that Visakhapatnam Steel will be privatized under any circumstances. The Center has declared as a parliamentary witness that the AP government has nothing to do with the affair. The state has no equity stake in the Visakhapatnam steel plant and will withdraw 100 per cent of its investment. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written reply to a question by AP MP Satyanarayana that privatization was being done for better productivity. The Center has not backed down despite massive protests over the privatization of the Visakhapatnam steel plant. It is a known fact that even Prime Minister Modi has already clarified this issue.

In addition, the Center has made it clear in Parliament that it will not help in the construction of the Ramayapatnam port. She explained that under the Separation Act, only the development of large ports is central and the responsibility for the development of non-major ports lies with the states. The Center has given a written reply to TG Venkatesh’s question in the Rajya Sabha that the Center should make changes in the law to develop Ramayapatnam.
