The presence of these has been found in the states of Maharashtra, Kerala and Telangana. VK Paul said. He said there were already three mutant variants in the country, which had entered from Britain, South Africa and Brazil. He said the mutant variant was believed to be responsible for the increase in corona virus cases, especially in several districts of Maharashtra and Kerala. However, it is yet to be confirmed. He said the UK variant was found in 187 people, the South African mutant in six and the Brazilian variant in one person.
Kerala and Maharashtra accounted for 75 per cent of the country’s Kovid active cases, said Rajesh Bhushan, secretary of the department. Kerala has 38 per cent, Maharashtra 37 per cent, Karnataka 4 per cent and Tamil Nadu 2.78 per cent active cases, he said. He did not elaborate on Telangana.
