Protest erupts in West Bengal Left-wing parties have been protesting since 6 am today, burning tires and chanting slogans against Mamata Banerjee, while standing across the train in other places to protest against the Mamata Banerjee government for sending police forces to attack them. Chairman Biman Bose was incensed.
Police in riot gear stormed a rally in Kolkata on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. The bandh was announced in protest of the police baton charge. The Left Front chairman said that 150 students were injured in the baton charge. Police fired water cannons at students trying to break through the barricades. Tensions are high in West Bengal over the bandh in the wake of the elections.
Left parties, including the Congress party, on Thursday rallied at the state secretariat in Nabanna, the capital of West Bengal, to give jobs to the youth of the state. However the rally turned into a brawl. The rally was not allowed, to go back several times, police said. Water cannons were launched, however, as the protesters did not retreat, slightly charging the baton. Condemning this, the Left parties called for a 12-hour protest on Friday.
