The doses produced by the Serum Institute are being transported on an Emirates flight that took off from Mumbai, India, on Monday
A shipment of two million doses of vaccine against Covid-19 should arrive in São Paulo at 6:55 am on Tuesday, 23. They will then be forwarded to the Immunobiological Technology Institute, at Rio de Janeiro, for labeling and distribution in accordance with the National Immunization Program. The batch is being transported by the airline Emirates on a flight that took off from Mumbai, India, at 2 am on Monday, 22. The doses were produced by the Instituto Serum and developed by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in partnership with Oxford University.
The importation of vaccines is a strategy to accelerate the vaccination campaign against new coronavirus in Brazil while the Fiocruz works on the local production of the AstraZeneca-Oxford immunizer. According to the pharmaceutical company, the foundation will produce 100.4 million doses of vaccines by July, from an imported active pharmaceutical ingredient. In January, two million ready-made doses were already brought in from India. In addition to the other two million that are expected to arrive on Tuesday, 23, another eight million vaccines are planned for the coming months.
