A strong earthquake reached the island of Crete, in the Greece, this Monday morning, 27. A person died when the dome of a church under renovation collapsed in the village of Arcalochóri. According to international agencies, the tremor caused many people in Heraklion, the island’s capital, to run away. Schools were evacuated and students were instructed to gather in institutional courtyards and city squares. The Geodynamic Institute of Athens has estimated a preliminary magnitude of 5.8. Aftershocks have increased damage to villages near the epicenter. Crete is the largest and most populous island in Greece.
