National Federation of Federal Police officers says that changes in the institution’s command are surprising and cause concern; association charges ‘commitment to technical management’
Entities that bring together federal police officers from Brazil demonstrated on Wednesday, 8, the day after the change of command of the corporation, asking for independence for the institution. The National Federation of Federal Police (FENAPEF) stated, in a note, that the Federal police (PF) is a state body, not a government. Even classifying the change as natural, since there was a ministerial exchange, the entity says that internally the change surprises the corporation and brings concern about the image of independence.
FENAPEF says that Paulo Maiurino’s appointment represents a “redemption” in respect of seniority in office, since he joined the Federal Police in 1998. Another entity, the National Association of Federal Criminal Experts, demanded from Maiurino “commitment to technical management” , ensuring the independent and republican performance of the PF. The National Association of Federal Police Delegates and the National Federation of Federal Police Delegates, in a joint note, said they hope that the new administration will leave “as a legacy an effective performance that consolidates the valorization of the institution and its professionals, because, today, the servants feel abandoned by the federal government ”.
This Wednesday, the minister Anderson Torres, Justice and Public Security, received in his office the new directors-general of the Federal Police and Federal Highway Police. He said that the change in command does not mean a rupture and that the institution maintains its independence and autonomy in the way it operates. Torres added that he will continue operations, investigations, and work to combat organized crime and corruption. Paulo Maiurino stressed that he intends to improve technology, integration between the police and take care of the police. The new director general of the Federal Highway Police, Silvinei Vasques, assured that he will intensify the work in some specific regions of the country, such as the triple border and the Amazon region.
