Arrested, 18-year-old suspect confessed that he had planned a crime and said he met the victim on the internet just over a month ago
A player of Call Of Duty Mobile 19 years old was murdered last Monday, 22, by another player he met on social networks in the neighborhood of Pirituba, North Zone of São Paulo. Ingrid Oliveira Bueno da Silva, who used the code name “Sol” to play, had met the suspect, Guilherme Alves Costa, aged 18, in January and was stabbed to death at his home on the first meeting they had outside the networks. The victim was stabbed to death and then the suspect published images of the murder in the group of a gaming clan in the WhatsApp. In a statement, Gamers Elite, owner of the group in which Guilherme published the victim’s video, said he informed the authorities and asked that all participants not share the images. “Our organization never agreed with any criminal act in any way and will never agree or apologize for it”, says an excerpt from the document.
According to the São Paulo Civil Police, vehicles were called on Monday afternoon by the suspect’s brother, who found the victim’s body at home. Guilherme ran away and would have tried to commit suicide after the murder, but gave up after requests from his brother, who took him to the police station. At the scene, he confessed that he had planned the crime and said he met the victim over the internet just over a month ago. In addition to the suspect’s cell phone, the digital file of a book he would have written explaining why he committed the crime was seized by the police. According to those responsible for the WhatsApp group to which he sent the book and photos of the crime, the suspect’s production had “hate messages against Christians” and “a nod to terrorism”. The case was registered at the 87th Police Station as a qualified homicide.
The occurrence drew attention to the violence suffered by women in the online gaming environment. “In the mobile cod scene, many players are threatened and we campaign to combat any type of abuse of our women. Reflect on what happened and try to contribute to a healthier and more accessible sports scenario for everyone ”, said the Jaguares Esports team in a note on social networks. Call of Duty Mobile is a first-person shooter released in October 2019. It accumulates millions of downloads on mobile phones on iOS and Android platforms.
