US Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reveals that she was the victim of sexual assault in an emotional video in which she recalls how she lived in terror, the moments of the invasion of the Capitol, on the 6th of January.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is of Latin origin, speaks of the fact that she lived those moments with great fear, mainly because the invasion was made, mostly, by white men.
“I thought I was going to die. And a lot of things crossed my mind. I thought if this was the plan for me ”, reports Ocasio-Cortez in the video that was released on social networks.
She tells how she hid in a bathroom in her office, when the invaders forced her into the Capitol, and while she heard people banging on the walls and a man shouting “Where is she at? Where is she? ”.
Ocasio-Cortez points out that the way he lived those moments of fear was marked by his experience as a “sexual assault survivor”.
The congresswoman notes the frustration at being told to “move on” after the attack, something that is often said to people who have been sexually abused, as she says.
“These people who tell us to move on, that it’s not a big deal, that we should forget what happened, until we say that we should apologize – they are the same tactics two abusers“It simply came to our notice then.
“I am a survivor of sexual assault”, ends up assuming. “I didn’t say that to many people in my life. But when we go through the trauma, the traumas accumulate in each other ”, he concludes.
Meanwhile, the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez video is receiving some criticism on social media, with users noting that “must be replaced by a progressive who can deal with the situation if she can’t. ”
“Me me me”, points out yet another user, stressing that the video is “an anecdote” when “Zero shots were fired from the crowd” and “zero bombs triggered”. “Don’t pay attention to my broken promises”, says this American voter.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was re-elected to the US Congress by the New York constituency last November.
The congresswoman had already said that she suffered for several days due to the invasion of the Capitol, even because she was warned that she could suffer some type of violence from certain people due to her political position.
