Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have criticized Amazon’s work and business practices. Jeff Bezos was not happy and the discord reached new heights, with the company attacking senators on social networks.
A Vox advances that the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, expressed dissatisfaction with the company’s employees for not being aggressive in the way they resist criticism that Amazon is subject to. At the leader’s ears, a series of sarcastic and aggressive tweets followed.
The moment coincided with the greatest union election of the company’s history in Bessemer, Alabama. When news emerged that Bernie Sanders was planning a visit to the US state, Dave Clark, a top executive at the company, started the tweeting war.
“I welcome @SenSanders in Birmingham and thank you for your effort for a progressive workplace. I often say that we are the Bernie Sanders of employers, but not quite, because we actually offer a progressive workplace, ”wrote Clark.
A few hours later, the official Amazon News account, with more than 170,000 followers, shot Congressman Mark Pocan, who questioned Clark’s claim to “progressive workplace” by alluding to rumors that Amazon’s work pace was being so demanding that workers “have to urinating in water bottles“.
“You don’t believe in this story of peeing in bottles, do you?” questioned the official Amazon News account. “If that were true, no one would work for us.”
A Vox continues and says that, after an exchange of ideas with Elizabeth Warren, who started with the senator criticizing the company’s tax payments, the same Amazon account made another controversial tweet.
“This is extraordinary and revealing. One of the most powerful policies in the United States just said it will end an American company so that I can no longer criticize her“, wrote.
Asked by Vox, an Amazon spokesman declined to comment.
I know Jeff Bezos’ goal was drown out the news of the union campaign over a period of time, succeeded. However, instead of talking about the union, the media focused on the unusual attitude of a company to fight powerful lawmakers on Twitter.
Inside Amazon, the employees themselves were perplexed by the company’s approach on the social network and raised suspicions about the account’s suspicious activity.
A security engineer even pointed out that the tweets were posted using the Twitter web application instead of the Sprinklr, the social media management software commonly used by the Amazon News account.
