The United States will open its land border with Canada and Mexico in early November. However, the border will only be opened for the fully vaccinated.
The border was closed in March 2020, during the Coronavirus pandemic, and it was closed to any vehicles, trains and maritime transport. Exceptions were allowed only when crossing the border for essential travel and trade purposes.
In addition to the opening of the land border with Mexico and Canada, President Biden has decided that all foreign nationals who will be fully vaccinated and hold the relevant travel document will be able to arrive in the United States. This rule will come into force in November, but the exact date is still unknown.
The Biden administration was under great pressure from American lawmakers. They were urging the White House to temporarily ease travel and border restrictions. Lawmakers said the rules alienated family members and cost America billions of dollars in tourism revenue.
