The governor of Bahia, Rui Costa (PT), suspended, this Thursday, the 25th, all non-essential activities in the state from 5 pm on Friday, 26, until Monday, 1 st. Only public health services and food sales will operate in the period. “Today, we announce a set of new measures, even tougher, to contain the advance of the coronavirus in Bahia. Despite the efforts we have made so far, the situation remains critical and public and private health facilities are close to collapse, ”said the governor on his social networks. From 6pm on Friday, the sale of alcoholic beverages in bars, restaurants and even in supermarkets and convenience stores will be prohibited. The measure is also in effect until 5 am on Monday.
To avoid crowding in public transport, the closure of commercial activities will be staggered. Street convenience stores are expected to close at 5pm. Bars and restaurants at 6pm. Malls and shopping centers at 8pm. “Social activities of any kind, whether religious, sporting, political or cultural, are also prohibited throughout Bahia during this period. I appeal to Bahians and Bahians to understand the importance of the measures and respect the state decree. Our big goal now is to guarantee social distance in this critical phase of the pandemic ”, asked Rui Costa. According to him, the state has 195 people waiting for beds in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds in regulation.
