THE Brazil exceeded the mark of 260 thousand deaths caused by Covid-19 after registering 1,699 new cases in the last 24 hours. The new deaths increased the total number of fatal victims of the disease to 260,970, being the second largest number in the world, only lower than that of the U.S, which add up to 519 deaths from the disease. In the same period, 75,102 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded, which means that the number of people infected with the new coronavirus and its variants since the beginning of the pandemic has been 10,793,732, only lower than the number of cases in the USA (28 , 8 million) and the India (11.1 million). The data were released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (CONASS) through a bulletin update made at 6 pm on Thursday.
The disease indicators continue to show the progress of Covid-19 in Brazil. The mortality rate from the disease continued to rise, reaching 124.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants. The incidence rate also showed high, reaching the mark of 5,136.3 per 100 thousand inhabitants. In turn, the lethality rate of the disease remains stable at 2.4%. The highest mortality rate belongs to the Amazon, with 269.6 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants. Roraima, in turn, has the highest incidence rate, with 13,717.8 per 100 thousand inhabitants. In absolute numbers, São Paulo it is the state most affected, with 2,080,852 cases and 60,694 deaths caused by the disease. At the moment, the country is experiencing a moment of crisis, with 18 states and the Federal District registering an ICU bed occupancy of more than 80%.
