44,299 cases and 1,043 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours alone
This Saturday, Brazil reached 9,809,754 confirmed cases and 238,532 deaths due to Covid-19, according to data updated by the National Council of Health Secretaries at 6 pm. Of these, 44,299 cases and 1,043 deaths were recorded only in the last 24 hours. São Paulo (1,911,411), Minas Gerais (804,063) and Bahia (627,265) are the states with the most registered cases. São Paulo (56,191), Rio de Janeiro (31,383) and Minas Gerais (16,760) have the highest number of deaths. The Ministry of Health reported on Friday, 12, that the Brazilian variant of the coronavirus, known as P1, has already been identified in at least 10 Brazilian states, namely: Amazonas, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Pará, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. In addition, fifteen countries have also identified the same mutation.
Minister Eduardo Pazuello, who is being investigated for alleged omission in the face of the crisis experienced by the state of Amazonas, said the variance was to blame for the hospitalization explosion. The World Health Organization has warned of the risks of new strains in circulation. Tests conducted by Pfizer show that the vaccine produced by the American pharmaceutical company neutralizes variants in the United Kingdom and South Africa, but there is still no data on the Brazilian variant. Currently, the Health portfolio is implementing the national network of genetic sequencing to investigate mutations and different strains of coronavirus circulating in Brazil. According to the secretary of health surveillance, Arnaldo Medeiros, the initiative will accelerate the investigation of Covid-19 virus mutations and this monitoring should contribute to the control of the pandemic in the country.
