Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, announced today that all children will need to be vaccinated against the covid-19 to return to face-to-face classes.
The US state government has added the disease to the list of required immunizations for schools. As a result, California is the first US state to include this requirement for vaccination against covid-19.
“We want to end the pandemic, we are all tired of it,” Newsom said at a news conference, which was shared no Twitter.
Pfizer’s vaccine is under review for use in children aged 5-11 years. The California requirement, which involves basic education, will only be applied when there is approval for vaccination of this population group by the FDA, the agency analogous to the Brazilian Anvisa.
One of the risks associated with the spread of covid-19 among children, who have a lower mortality rate with the new coronavirus infection, is the emergence of new variants that may be resistant to current vaccines. In the United States, more than 700,000 people have died from covid-19.
