Agents have been investigating the group since 2019 and have already identified others involved; suspect must answer for criminal association, solicitation of minors, qualified theft and drug trafficking
A Civil police from Barueri arrested a suspect of involvement in a gang that invaded condominiums to steal apartments in the city of São Paulo and in the region. Matheus Araújo dos Santos, 20, took turns with at least three other people to carry out the thefts. He was arrested at his home, in the neighborhood of Liberdade, Centro de Sao Paulo, where clocks, foreign coins, keys used in burglaries and narcotics were found. Criminals, white teenagers and young adults dressed in uniforms, entered buildings without much difficulty and broke into apartments. In footage of one of the actions, one of the criminals is seen leaving a building with a safe, containing BRL 70 thousand, wrapped in a blanket. He was heard this Friday, 2, and released. In another video of the investigations, Matheus enters a condominium with the help of a teenager who lived there. The assistant delegate of the central police station in Barueri, Celso Luís França, explains how Matheus was identified.
“In this theft that occurred in Osasco, the cameras managed to capture the image of people and a vehicle that was outside. With a survey of the investigation, we were able to survey the license plate and identify the owner. With that, it coincided with images that we had of the theft carried out in Barueri. The same person who was in Osasco appeared in Barueri. What happened to the recent situation in Osasco, that’s why we got to Matheus, was that, to our luck and the bad luck of the criminals, they left fingerprints on the place”, he explained. Police have been investigating the gang since 2019 and have identified others involved. Criminals often carry valuables and money. There are at least five police reports in Osasco and Barueri assigned to the group. However, the number of thefts could be higher, as Matheus Araújo dos Santos told investigators that he lost count of how many buildings he invaded. The case seen in the images was also apprehended. The suspect must answer for criminal association, solicitation of minors, qualified theft and drug trafficking.
