The senator Flávio Bolsonaro (Republicanos-RJ) used social networks this Tuesday, 2, to justify the purchase of a mansion worth R $ 5.97 million in an upscale neighborhood of Brasilia. Earlier in the week, the property became the subject of controversy among supporters and opponents of the government. In the video released, the senator states that he entered the property with the income collected through the sale of other properties he owned, which are a residential property and a property. Kopenhagen chocolate store franchise, both located in Rio de Janeiro. “I will not stop doing anything in my life for fear of how the press will exploit or distort it. I’m being very objective: I sold a property that I had in Rio de Janeiro and a franchise that I owned, also in Rio, and I entered the house here in Brasilia. Most of the value of this house is being financed by the bank, which approved a fee according to my family income, as anyone in Brazil can do ”, he said.

With a total area of 2,400 m², the property purchased by Flávio Bolsonaro is located in the Mansão Dom Bosco Sector, one of the most valued regions of the capital. Of the R $ 5.97 million equivalent to the total value of the mansion, R $ 3.1 million was financed by Banco de Brasília (BRB) in 360 installments, which will be paid at an effective interest rate of 4.85% and a effective interest reduced by 3.71% per year. The price of the property is about four times the equity declared by Flávio during the 2018 election dispute, when he was elected senator. At the time, he declared to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) the equity of R $ 1.74 million, including two properties and the franchise of the chocolate store. In addition, he currently receives a salary of R $ 33,763.

“I regret the exploitation on top of a simple fact, everything I am saying is registered in a public deed, accessible to the press and any Brazilian. Now, they are saying that they were unable to identify the purchase and sale of my property in Rio de Janeiro. I clarify that it occurred through a private instrument of purchase and sale. Soon there will also be a public deed related to negotiation, but we are still in the process of preparing the certificates. Nothing more. I am sorry that the press exposed the address where I live, exposed my family. I have already officiated the GSI, the body responsible for the safety of the President, so that the security of my residence is enhanced. It is just that, nothing more than that. Everything is round, within the law and without any problem ”, concluded the senator.

Currently, the president’s son is being investigated for allegedly laundering money through the purchase and sale of real estate. Also according to the investigation, the money laundered would come from a scheme of embezzlement of resources from the salaries of his former advisers, when he worked as a state deputy in the Rio Legislative Assembly (Alerj). Last week, the Fifth Panel of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) accepted an appeal from the senator’s defense, annulling the breaches of banking and fiscal secrecy related to the investigation of “cracking“. Thus, evidence against Flávio, presented by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MP-RJ) at the end of 2020, should be discarded. According to the complaint of the MP-RJ, R $ 6.1 million would have been diverted from public coffers through 12 ghost employees registered in the office of Flávio Bolsonaro at Alerj. Sought by Young pan, the senator’s publicist said that Flávio would only manifest himself through the video published on his social networks.
