Suspect was arrested using the stamp and signature of another health professional; she had a degree in pharmacy and studied medicine, but she has been attending since February
The Civil Police of the Rio de Janeiro arrested this Monday, 5, a pharmacist who acted as a fake doctor at a health post in the neighborhood of Imbariê, in the city of Duque de Caxias. The suspect, who did not have his identity revealed, had his first degree in health, was a medical student and had been medicating patients since the month of February. Before working at the neighborhood health post, she reportedly worked at a municipal hospital in Duque de Caxias. At the time the fake doctor was arrested, she used the stamp and signature of another health professional who was licensed to practice medicine. The suspect stated that he attended about 130 patients per shift, some of them with symptoms of Covid-19.
She was arrested for misrepresentation, illegal practice of medicine and for endangering the lives and health of others. By means of a note, the city of Duque de Caxias stated that it learned of the police occurrence as early as Thursday and ordered the opening of an administrative investigation to investigate the facts. The municipality said it would forward allegations of misrepresentation to the state prosecutor’s office and asked that patients treated irregularly return to health facilities for a new consultation. “PMDC does not admit any type of irregular behavior by employees and points out that, if the accusations are confirmed, all necessary measures will be taken and those responsible will be punished administratively and judicially for their acts”, says the document.
