Of all the states, only Pará, Amapá, Tocantins, Paraíba and São Paulo had significant falls in hospitalizations
In a new bulletin, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation warns that the pandemic should remain at “worrying levels” in April, with an intense circulation of coronavirus all over the country. In 19 states and the Federal District, occupancy rates for ICU beds are over 90%. At the Mato Grosso do Sul, there are no more vacancies. Already Pará, Amapá, Tocantins, Paraíba and São Paulo had significant falls in hospitalizations.
According to the researchers, the country may be facing the formation of a new plateau on the infection curve – like what happened in the middle of 2020. This time, however, Brazil has higher numbers of deaths and serious cases. Fiocruz reinforces the importance of shared and coordinated decisions between the federal government, states and municipalities to improve patient care. For the scientists, the restraint measures adopted in recent weeks are positive and produce local successes, but they have not yet eased the pressure on hospitals. For the time being, Fiocruz does not yet recommend easing.
