Maria Angélica, 53, is admitted to the Couto Maia Institute (ICOM), but her condition is stable; proposal of the vaccine is that the two doses are applied so that immunity is reached
Nurse Maria Angélica de Carvalho Sobrinho, the first vaccinated in the Bahia, was diagnosed with Covid-19. The information was confirmed to Young pan by the press office of the Bahia Department of Health. Maria Angélica is interned at the Couto Maia Institute (ICOM), the same unit where she works. According to the Health Department, the patient’s clinical condition is stable. The 53-year-old nurse received the first dose of CoronaVac on January 19, but did not receive the second dose, which should be applied 14 to 28 days after the first application.
According to the director of ICOM, Ceuci Nunes, a health professional began to observe the symptoms three days before receiving the second dose, which would be applied to Maria Angélica on February 16. The nurse felt unwell and fever and the hospital decided to admit her to closely monitor the situation. The director of ICOM also clarified that the case has nothing to do with an adverse reaction to the vaccine. She points out that it is not an exceptional situation, since the proposal of the vaccine is that the two doses are applied so that the immunity conferred by the immunizer can be achieved. “The vaccine protects very well in severe ways and reduces hospitalization. This is what all studies show. But we don’t know if she is able to prevent the infection ”, explains Ceuci. The director made an appeal that, even after the doses are applied, people continue to wear a mask and maintain social isolation.
