The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, responded to the visit and protest rally of Russian journalist Vladimir Posner and his guests to Georgia, saying that the visit was “in full compliance with the law.”
Gharibashvili said that the “National Movement” took advantage of the incident.
“I want to point out that Vladimir Posner, who is also a citizen of the United States, did not violate the law on the occupied territories. He often visits Georgia with a United States passport. This was his next private visit, according to the government decree he and his entourage had a so-called Covid passport, negative answer to “Piasar test”. Consequently, they entered the country in full compliance with the law. “As for the gathering of guests in one of the institutions in Tbilisi, without considering the regulations, of course, it is unacceptable for all of us.
The Prime Minister said that this form of protest “goes beyond civil forms and Georgian standards.”
“As you know, one group of our society decided to protest, using the most destructive force of the” National Movement “and, as usual, put the events on the agenda. “This time, too, the goal of the United National Movement, and in particular of Saakashvili, is, of course, destruction and sabotage to cause maximum damage to our country, to tarnish the international image of our country,” the prime minister said.
Vladimir Posner, the TV presenter of the Russian government “First Channel”, was planning to celebrate his birthday in Tbilisi. The visit of the Russian TV presenter was followed by protests by civil activists and representatives of opposition parties. According to them, Posner is one of the propagandists of the Kremlin and an active supporter of the occupation and annexation of Georgia and Ukraine, and he should not be allowed on the territory of Georgia.
