Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Information Technology Industry Development Authority, the Industry Modernization Center and Siemens Egypt to establish and equip the first innovation center in the fourth industrial generation in Egypt in the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital.
The center aims to raise awareness of the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution and its practical applications in smart factories, adopt advanced technology in local manufacturing, as well as training in automation and digitization techniques, and provide the necessary support in the fields of stimulating industrial innovation and designing smart factories in a way that contributes to the transfer of knowledge and the development of the industrial sector.
He explained that the field of the electronics industry in Egypt had been started recently, the most prominent of which was the signing of a contract with an international company to manufacture tablet computers in Egypt. Work is also underway within the framework of a committee that includes the Ministries of Communications and Information Technology, Trade and Industry, and a number of concerned parties to develop recommendations based on scientific foundations that will be submitted to the Prime Minister so that Egypt can move forward in the field of electronics design and manufacturing.
Talaat added that Egypt seeks to keep pace with and localize the latest global technologies and stimulate the adoption of smart manufacturing technology to achieve digital transformation at the level of all industrial sectors, and then increase competitiveness to become an active element in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. He explained that this cooperation will contribute to accelerating work towards making Egypt a leading regional center in the field of designing and manufacturing electronics, in implementation of the presidential initiative “Egypt makes electronics.”
He pointed out that the city of knowledge that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is establishing in the New Administrative Capital represents an integrated information society that attracts global investments and a catalyst for digital creativity and creative thought. Where it is established according to the latest technological systems to be equipped at the highest level to receive research, development and technological innovation activities, and specialized training in advanced technologies, in addition to headquarters for global and local companies working in the field of communications and information technology.
On her part, Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, confirmed that the Fourth Industrial Generation Innovation Center aims to provide services and programs to build the capabilities of the industrial sector, entrepreneurs and university students, with the aim of facilitating production processes and product development through the application and promotion of the concepts of digital transformation, the fourth industrial revolution and the applications of modern technologies.
Pointing out in this context that the Ministry, represented by the Industry Modernization Center, provides a number of services to help the industrial sector keep pace with modern systems in the field of digital transformation, including the availability of specialized software in all sectors, the availability of Internet of things tools, virtual reality technology, augmented reality, and 3D printing. , Digital manufacturing tools and prototyping, reverse engineering, designing production lines, systems and simulations, and providing evaluation and consulting services in the fields of the fourth industrial revolution.
Jameh indicated that coordination has been made with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Siemens to form a mini-working group to follow up the implementation of the agreement and work to solve any obstacles that may face the implementation process, provided that this group meets periodically to evaluate each stage of the implementation, which contributes to ensuring the achievement of The intended benefit from this agreement, especially on the industrial sector.
For his part, Eng. Amr Mahfouz, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Authority, said that the opening of the “Industry 4.0 Innovation Center (IIC)” comes within the framework of the authority’s efforts to support and motivate the local electronics industry to keep pace with technological developments and the smart manufacturing environment by creating a business climate. And to make the most of the opportunities offered by emerging technologies, pointing out that the city of knowledge will be the icon of the electronics industry and design in Egypt, where emerging companies in this field will be incubated, incentives and training programs will be provided, as well as the establishment of other advanced laboratories to help Egyptian companies innovate and compete at the regional and global levels.
Mahfouz added that according to the memorandum of understanding, both the authority and the Siemens company will cooperate in establishing and equipping the center at the headquarters of the Innovation and Innovation Center in Knowledge City, which is located on an area of 15 thousand square meters, while the Industrial Modernization Center will determine the programs appropriate to the needs of the industrial sector in Egypt and provide cadres of workers in the sector to benefit Of the center’s services in the fields of training and consulting.
