Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi denied that India and Pakistan had been involved in secret peace talks mediated by the United Arab Emirates.

Qureshi said, according to the Pakistani newspaper, Dawn, that India and Pakistan “are not holding any peace talks at the present time and the UAE is not facilitating anything.”

The Pakistani minister pointed out, “There are stories about a mediating role, but in fact there is no,” as he put it.

He added, “The UAE is a friendly country and has good relations with Pakistan and India.”

And he continued, “Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan confirmed after the elections that if India takes one step towards peace, Pakistan will take two steps.”

He refused to mediate

In the context, the famous Qatari singer “Boughanim” confirmed that what happened in fact was a Pakistani rejection of the Emirati mediation, stressing that Pakistan had dealt a severe insult to the UAE in this regard.

This comes at a time when the Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat confirmed the start of talks between the Pakistani foreign minister and his Indian counterpart, with the participation of the Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed.

According to the Saudi newspaper, this came on two separate visits during the past week, in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

Intelligence reports

In the context, a recent US intelligence report concluded that India is more inclined than the past to use military force against Islamabad.

This came in a report issued by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, last week, under the title “Annual Threat Assessment to the American Intelligence Community.”

The report pointed out that “the escalating tension between India and Pakistan has increased the risk of conflict between the two nuclear-armed states.”

The report stated: “Although a general war between India and Islamabad is unlikely, the crises between the two countries are likely to become more severe; What threatens in turn of escalation. ”

He explained that “the unrest in the disputed Kashmir region between the two countries, and the occurrence of a military attack in India, could be potential flashpoints of tension between them.”
