Al-Jalali: The capacity of “Helnan” hotels is about 1,000 rooms … and the opening of the hotel in the last quarter of 2021
Anan Al-Jalali, head of the international “Helnan” company for hotel management, said that the group in Egypt achieved profits during the past year despite the great pressures it faced due to the Corona virus, which affected the tourism movement around the world.
Al-Jalali added in a phone interview that despite the decline in average occupancy and prices during 2020, “Helnan” hotels completed the year with profits, albeit modest, as he described.
He did not disclose the value of the profits made, and said, “In all cases, they are profits, and we thank God for that in a year in which Corona stormed activity in all countries of the world.”
Al-Jalali said that the Helnan Group is a Scandinavian company specializing in managing losing hotels and converting them for profit, which is evidenced by all the hotels it has managed in various tourist areas in Egypt.
Al-Anani refused to disclose the average occupancy of the group’s hotels during the past two months, even though they were low compared to the corresponding period of last year.
It manages the Helnan Group 6 hotels In Cairo, Giza, Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, Fayoum and Port Said.
The company intends to open a new hotel in Port Said with a capacity of 400 rooms during the last quarter of this year, according to Al-Jalali.
He pointed out that a contract was signed with Port Said Governorate to manage one of the hotels owned by it for a period of more than 20 years and that it is currently being developed.
He mentioned that the capacity of the hotels managed by “Helnan” in Egypt is close to 1000 rooms.
He said that the group aims to maintain profits during the current year despite the difficulties that the global tourism sector faces, but it is betting on an improvement in conditions compared to last year.
Al-Jalali added that the national projects implemented by the government in recent years are very attractive to global management companies to be present on the land of Egypt, because the development of infrastructure in the cities of El Alamein, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo attracts high-spending tourists, thus creating strong competition between hotel management companies for their presence in Egypt.
Al-Jalali said that the average occupancy differs from one hotel administration to another, and it cannot be a single rule. It is related to the efficiency of managers and workers in reducing costs and maintaining quality and efficiency, and many hotels have made losses during the past year, which are expected results.
He added that the Egyptian tourism sector is able to regain attracting tourists during the next two years, but that it depends on countries easing travel restrictions and the availability of vaccines against the Corona virus.
