The Israeli media, Eddie Cohen, sparked widespread anger in the Sultanate of Oman, after he tweeted about the Sultanate’s normalization with Israel.

Cohen claimed, in a tweet monitored by “Watan”, that the Gulf Cooperation Council has four publicly printed and two secretly printed countries, as, according to him, the Sultanate of Oman was one of the publicly printed countries.

Cohen said, according to what “Watan” monitored: “The Gulf Cooperation Council has 4 countries in which it is publicly printed, and 2 covertly, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar. The rest of the secret 2 and your understanding is enough.

The famous Omani tweet, “Al-Shaheen,” responded to Cohen’s tweet, saying: “We previously talked about the rhetoric of official Omani diplomatic statements. It needs perceptual power, quick wit and good logic to understand it and grasp its meaning.
Al-Shaheen added, in a series of tweets monitored by “Watan”: “It is somewhat difficult for those who are used to dealing with politics with alcohol or hashish or on the sidewalks and cheap cafes.”

The Omani Minister’s statements
Al-Shaheen clarified that the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr Al-Busaidi, about the level of relations with Israel, were clear and that we are. “We are satisfied with these relations, but we do not need any normalization.”

Yesterday, Thursday, new statements by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman, Badr Al-Busaidi, about the Sultanate’s relationship with Israel, sparked a debate among activists on communication sites.
According to “Reuters”, the Sultanate’s Foreign Minister said that his country is satisfied with the current level of relations with Israel. And dialogue between them, which includes the appropriate channels of communication.
Speaking during an online event, the Omani minister stressed that the Sultanate is committed to peace between Israel and the Palestinians “based on the two-state solution.”
This is the condition of the Sultanate of Oman before normalization
And the last sentence proves that the Sultanate will not be printed with the occupation now and that it is steadfast in its position, as Israel will not accept the two-state solution, which is the Sultanate’s condition for normalization.
Al-Busaidi’s statements about the event organized by the Atlantic Council were taken in the sentence and in general terms and were interpreted by some as a willingness. And a prelude to a normalization agreement along the lines of the UAE and Bahrain.
Emirati websites also promoted the statements of the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a deceptive manner that shows that the Sultanate is preparing for the normalization process.
The Sultanate had explicitly stressed its position in support of Palestine, and the principle of the two-state solution, more than once.
Sultanate of Oman and the Iranian nuclear agreement
In his statements, Al-Busaidi also said that the Sultanate of Oman is ready to help save the Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015. It has been under pressure since 2018 when Trump withdrew from it.
But he said he feels the current US lines of communication with Tehran may be sufficient.
Badr Al-Busaidi was also asked during the event about the opportunities for Oman to mediate in new efforts to salvage the agreement signed by Iran with world powers.
He said that Muscat enjoys very good relations with both Tehran and Washington and is ready to help if needed.
“I think the channels are open directly between the foreign policy teams in Washington and Iran,” he added. I see no reason why these channels should not be reactivated.
Meanwhile, Al-Busaidi, who took office in August, reiterated his country’s longstanding policy of neutrality in the troubled region.
“The Omani foreign policy has always sought to support and encourage dialogue between the largest possible number of parties,” he said.
Maariv talk about secret communications
The Israeli newspaper, Maariv, revealed details of advanced secret Israeli contacts with the Sultanate of Oman and Sudan. This is regarding the file of normalization with Israel, indicating that this is being done with intense support and pressure from the United States of America.
The newspaper said, in a recent report, that in light of the closure that Israel is witnessing, more normalization agreements will come out into the open. This is what actually happened with Sudan, pointing out that the next step in the path of Arab normalization will be between Israel and the Sultanate of Oman, but until this moment it has not been achieved.
The newspaper pointed out that the Sultanate issued an official statement welcoming the normalization agreements with the UAE and Bahrain. Oman expressed in its statement its hope that this process would lead to an agreement with the Palestinians as well.
A big breakthrough, but it did not materialize
According to the Hebrew newspaper, there has been a major breakthrough in recent days in contacts between Israel and the Sultanate of Oman. Adding: “It was agreed to issue a statement about achieving a normalization agreement in the near future.”
“The official announcement will take place next week, and in case of technical difficulties, it will be the following week,” Maariv confirmed. Noting that the other countries that are about to announce the normalization of their relations with Israel in the coming days are Sudan, which is the third largest country in the African continent.
