And last week, Saudi Arabia announced the amendment of import rules from the Gulf countries, in a procedure that the UAE is the most affected by, according to which goods produced by companies with employment less than 25% of local workers are excluded from the customs exemption agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
The decision excludes industrial products for which the proportion of local inputs in their manufacture (the added value of the commodity) is less than 40%, and stipulates that “all goods produced in the free zones of the zone will not be considered locally manufactured.”
The decision includes excluding goods that include a component produced by “Israel” or manufactured by companies wholly or partly owned by Israeli investors or companies included in the Arab boycott agreement for “Israel.”
The free zones are one of the main components of the UAE economy, and it and Bahrain are the only members of the Gulf Cooperation Council that have normalization agreements and economic and trade relations with Tel Aviv.
