A warm welcome to Sultan Haitham in Saudi Arabia

The visit of the Sultan of Oman received a warm welcome from the Saudi monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, in addition to the media and social media platforms.

The Saudi King and the Omani Sultan witnessed the signing ceremony of the memorandum of establishing a coordination council between the two countries, while the Saudi Cabinet authorized officials to prepare and sign draft agreements with Oman in a large number of fields, including trade, culture, investment promotion, mail and transport.

Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman issued a joint statement at the conclusion of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s visit to the Kingdom.

The two sides praised the cooperation that has been achieved in the military, political and security fields in a way that achieves the security and stability of the two countries, and they stressed the continuation of work to develop this cooperation.

The statement welcomed the effective communication between officials of the two countries to discuss common issues and to work on concluding a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields. For the Prime Time Zone of the two countries to benefit and develop.

Sultan Haitham’s visit is the first by an Omani leader to the kingdom in 11 years, after the visit he made to Riyadh, the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, on May 29, 2010.

And last week, Saudi Arabia announced the amendment of import rules from the Gulf countries, in a procedure that the UAE is the most affected by, according to which goods produced by companies with employment less than 25% of local workers are excluded from the customs exemption agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The decision excludes industrial products for which the proportion of local inputs in their manufacture (the added value of the commodity) is less than 40%, and stipulates that “all goods produced in the free zones of the zone will not be considered locally manufactured.”

The decision includes excluding goods that include a component produced by “Israel” or manufactured by companies wholly or partly owned by Israeli investors or companies included in the Arab boycott agreement for “Israel.”

The free zones are one of the main components of the UAE economy, and it and Bahrain are the only members of the Gulf Cooperation Council that have normalization agreements and economic and trade relations with Tel Aviv.
