Lotfi: Meetings with commercial representatives in Egyptian embassies to discuss export mechanisms
A delegation of Jordan importers is visiting Egypt to discuss future contracts
The Leather, Footwear and Leather Products Export Council is looking into mechanisms for exporting to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan, to increase Egypt’s exports of the sector’s products to those countries.
Bassem Lotfy, a member of the council, said that a meeting was held via the Internet with Egyptian commercial representatives in the embassies of Egypt in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, provided that a similar meeting would be held with the commercial representative of Egypt at the Egyptian embassy in Jordan in the coming days.
He added to the “Stock Exchange” that the meeting discussed the needs of each country in terms of footwear products, leather products, appropriate prices, and the competitors expected from the local and export market.
He explained that studying the export markets from all sides is one of the most important export axes due to the different nature of the needs of each country from others.
Lotfi said that the Saudi market is one of the most important markets that the council works to export to, in light of the suspension of Turkish imports to it due to political problems between the two countries.
He added that Turkey used to acquire a large share of imports of shoes and leather products, and therefore the council seeks to seize a large share of those exports.
A member of the Leather, Footwear and Leather Products Export Council stated that a delegation of Jordanian importers will visit Egypt during the next stage to discuss the possibility of importing from Egyptian companies.
He said that the council held an online meeting with representatives of export councils and business organizations concerned with the sector in several African countries two weeks ago.
He explained that the council reviewed the products that could be exported from Egypt to those countries, in addition to reviewing the Al-Rubiky Leather City project and the process of moving factories to it during the next stage.
The exports of the leather and leather products sector recorded 418 million dollars during the first 10 months of last year, according to the reports of the General Authority for Export and Import Control.
The article discussing procedures for exporting leather products to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan was written in the Al-Borsa newspaper.
