Facebook announced today, Tuesday, that an error in the settings was the reason for disabling the social networking site’s services.
“We want to make it clear that there was no malicious activity behind this glitch, the root cause was a settings error on our part,” a company statement said on its social media support blog.
The statement added that there was no evidence that user data had been compromised as a result of the malfunction.
It is noteworthy that the networks “Facebook”, “Instagram”, “WhatsApp” and a number of other applications owned by the company became unavailable to users on Monday for about seven hours.
Some experts attributed the reason, according to preliminary data, to errors in the programming update.
