The Board of Directors of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency decided to appoint Jawad Al-Kharraz as Executive Director of the Energy Center for a period of 3 years, replacing the previous director, Ahmed Badr.
The center aims to enable and increase the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices in the Arab region, as well as helping countries to prepare national energy plans and develop project implementation mechanisms.
Al-Kharraz said that the center will continue in its cycle to be a major strategic partner for Arab countries in ensuring energy security and achieving sustainable development goals.
The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is an intergovernmental organization with a diplomatic status that seeks to activate and increase the utilization of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices in the Arab region. The center is also the technical arm of the Energy Department – the League of Arab States and the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity.
He added that the center will continue to encourage investments in the field of renewable energy in Arab countries and to promote innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable development projects such as public and private sector companies.
He stated that the center will complete work on projects that have social, economic and environmental dimensions in the Arab region, as well as strengthen partnership with member states of the center.
He stressed the importance of Arab cooperation in all areas of sustainable energy, the interrelationship between water, energy, food and climate, and the implementation of green hydrogen production projects.
Jawad Al-Kharraz said that before joining the center, he held the position of research director at the Middle East Desalination Research Center in the Sultanate of Oman for 5 years from 2015 to 2020.
He was also appointed as a Senior Expert, Consultant and Evaluation Officer for many international institutions such as the European Commission, the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, the Scientific Advisory Board, and also a member of the International Desalination Association, the European Desalination Association, and the Energy Council of the Sultanate of Oman .
