Today, Wednesday, marks the first anniversary of the death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, known as the Prince of Humanity.

The Kuwaitis remembered their Emir, who called him the “Prince of Giving and Loyalty,” as Kuwait lived under his leadership for 14 years, during which its name was immortalized in regional, Arab and international forums.

On the twenty-ninth of September last year 2020, Kuwait flew its flags at half-mast, its homes turned black, and sorrows permeated its regions, after the death of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad was announced at the age of 91.

During his rule, Kuwaitis knew him as a father, a brother, and a leader who contributed to advancing its development, achieving its renaissance and enhancing its stability.

With the departure of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, Kuwait lost one of its senior leaders and makers of its glories, just as the Arab world lost a wise leader, who was always keen to unify his word, strengthen its ranks, and end the dispute between its countries, while the world lost a prince of humanity and a leader of peace among its societies.

Since assuming the helm of power in the country on January 29, 2006, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad has been keen to follow the wise path that his predecessors, the honorable rulers have followed over the past decades, in playing an active role in the process of security and stability in the region, warding off differences between its countries and achieving peace in its societies.

On the internal level, the late Emir led the country towards development, development and prosperity at a difficult stage in which the region witnessed great challenges, and he was interested in building the human being as the most precious resource owned by the nation and the mainstay of its renaissance, development and prosperity.

When the late Emir assumed the helm of power as the fifteenth ruler of the State of Kuwait, he received great popular and official support.

The late Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad has always been known for adopting a wise policy through which he maintained a distinguished position for Kuwait in its Gulf, Arab and international locations.

The entire world witnessed his diplomatic successes in championing the just causes of the peoples, protecting the country from any influence that threatens its entity, and bringing it to safety in a turbulent environment with threats.

And if the country has lived under his leadership during the past fourteen years, it was preceded by decades of official work, during which he held a number of positions, through which he contributed to strengthening the process of building the nation, consolidating its pillars and consolidating its position.

During his career, the late Emir received dozens of decorations, necklaces and scarves, the most recent of which was his obtaining on September 18, 2020, the “Military Merit Medal of the Rank of Supreme Commander” from the United States, which is the highest military award well-deserved to a non-American leader in appreciation of his lofty efforts and outstanding achievements.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, may God have mercy on him, is the fourth son of the late Emir Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was distinguished in his son’s intelligence and intelligence since his young age, so he entered the “Mubarakiya School” and then sent him to some countries to study and gain experiences and skills that helped him to work in official positions.

The late Amir’s giving career began in 1954, when he was appointed as a member of the Supreme Executive Committee, which was entrusted at that time with the task of organizing the government’s interests and its official departments.

In 1955, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad assumed the position of head of the Department of Social Affairs and Labor, regulating the relationship between workers and employers, especially in light of the influx of workers from Arab and foreign countries to Kuwait.

He created technical and vocational training centers for youth, child and maternity care, the elderly and Prime Time Zone with special needs, and encouraged women’s associations and sports clubs.

The late Kuwaiti paid an interest in the arts, so he established the first center for the care of folk arts in Kuwait in 1956. In 1957, the presidency of the Department of Publications and Publishing was added to his duties. He issued the official newspaper of Kuwait “Kuwait Al-Youm” and established the government’s printing press to meet its needs of publications and supervised the issuance of “Al-Arabi” magazine.

The late Emir showed great interest in reviving the Arab heritage and republishing old books and manuscripts, so he formed a special committee for the “Writing the History of Kuwait” project and contributed to the issuance of the Press and Publications Law, which had a distinguished role in achieving the Kuwaiti press a prominent position among its Arab counterparts.

Kuwait’s independence

After the independence of the State of Kuwait in 1961, he was appointed as a member of the Constituent Assembly, which was entrusted with the task of drafting the country’s constitution. Then, in the first ministerial formation in 1962, he was appointed Minister of Guidance and News.

On January 28, 1963, and after holding the first legislative elections to choose members of the National Assembly, the deceased was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs, to begin his career with foreign political work and diplomacy in which he excelled. In the most difficult circumstances and political situations in the country.
