Al-Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, announced that the volume of Egyptian agricultural exports has increased to more than 5 million tons this year despite the circumstances of the outbreak of the emerging “Corona” virus and the disruption of transport and international trade by up to 25%.
Al-Qusayr praised the efforts made by the agricultural quarantine men during this year to facilitate export procedures and continue working around the clock, whether in farms, ports and export terminals.
The Minister of Agriculture said that 11 new markets have also been opened for agricultural products, the most important of which is the Japanese market, as well as the signing of a protocol to export Egyptian mangoes to the United States of America, which confirms the quality of Egyptian agricultural products and the increase in demand for them from all countries of the world.
He added that exports amounted to 5 million 65,325 tons of agricultural products, equivalent to 2.1 billion dollars, or about 33 billion Egyptian pounds, which would contribute to supporting the reserves in foreign exchange.
The list of the most important agricultural exports during this period included citrus fruits, potatoes, onions, beets, pomegranates, grapes, potatoes, mangoes, garlic, strawberries, beans, guava and pepper.
The total agricultural exports of citrus reached one million 542 thousand and 947 tons, in addition to the export of 682 thousand and 275 tons of potatoes, to occupy the second place in agricultural exports after the citrus fruits, while 428 thousand and 919 tons of onions were exported, ranking third in exports, and beet ranked fourth In agricultural exports, with a total of 344 thousand and 970 tons, while grapes ranked fifth in exports with a total of 139 thousand and 59 tons, while Egypt’s exports of pomegranates ranked sixth with a total amount of 100,000 and 471 tons, while Egypt’s exports of potatoes ranked seventh with a total 94,142 tons, followed by mango in eighth place with a total of 51 thousand and 729 tons, while garlic ranked ninth in exports with a total amount of 35,315 tons, while strawberries ranked tenth in agricultural exports with a total of 32 thousand and 516 tons, and the beans got The eleventh place, with a total of 25 thousand and 220 tons, and guava got the twelfth place with a total of 8987 tons, and pepper came to the last place with a total of 4669 tons.
