Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Ati, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, confirmed that the rainfall rates on the sources of the Nile are still higher than the average so far, noting that the ministry’s agencies are monitoring the rainfall rates at the sources of the Nile, the hydrological status of the river, and the determination of the quantities of water reaching the High Dam Lake.

This came during the periodic meeting of the Standing Committee for Regulating the Nile’s Revenue, chaired by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and in the presence of the executive leaders of the Ministry and the National Water Research Center, to follow up on the position of the Nile River’s revenue for the current water year, and procedures for dealing with the heavy rains and torrential seasons.

Dr. Abdel-Aty reviewed the measures taken by the ministry to make optimal use of water resources, and to manage the period of the lowest future needs with the highest degree of efficiency, while preparing to meet the water needs of the current autumn season.

He also reviewed the procedures followed to confront the rainy season and torrential rains, and follow-up on the implementation status of the protection projects against the dangers of torrential rains that are currently being implemented.. He stressed the need for traffic and continuous follow-up of protection facilities from the dangers of torrential rains and to ensure their readiness to receive rain, and to emphasize the readiness of the sectors and bridges of canals and drains to confront any emergency. The readiness of all stations, their electrical feeding lines, and emergency mobile units at hot sites, while maintaining safe levels in canals and drains to face any congestion in waterways.

The Minister of Irrigation directed that the committee be in continuous session to take the necessary measures to deal with the river’s revenue, follow up on the water situation and confront the rainy season and torrential rains.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation had taken all the necessary preparations and measures to confront the rainy season and torrential rains, in coordination with all the concerned authorities in the country, while raising the state of alert in all the ministry’s agencies and sectors through a plan that includes full coordination between the concerned agencies to follow up on the rain situation permanently.
